Cong lose 88 Lok Sabha seats from 8 states.
According To Headlines Today-CVoter poll:-
The Congress-led UPA government completes nine years today but the chances of its return to power, with Lok Sabha elections less than a year away, are bleak, indicates a Headlines Today-CVoter opinion poll.
The Congress is likely to lose a major chunk of votes and many seats in eight important states in the general elections, says the forecast.
The second term of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has been eventful for all the wrong reasons. Two main regional parties have ditched the ruling alliance-- the Trinamool  Congress from West Bengal and the DMK from Tamil Nadu -- and the government continues to fight one incident of corruption after another.

Lok sabha election Opinion poll 2014.

The UPA government, adrift at the centre, would like to advance the 2014 Lok Sabha election to October-November 2013.
That would serve three purposes. One, avoid the electoral blowback of four likely successive state assembly defeats in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Two, give the BJP less time to sort out its Narendra Modi-as-PM-candidate dilemma. And three, nip Mulayam Singh Yadav's Third Front idea in the bud.

Time, however, is not on the UPA’s side. While the SP and BSP, enmeshed in corruption, communalism and casteism, can be counted on for rancid, day-to-day support, the Congress too needs time to gain full electoral benefit from its cash transfer scheme and food security bill.
